How Bagels Are Made

Of late, we’ve talked a lot about how delicious bagels are, and about the many things you can do to make them even better, but we haven’t talked in a while about what actually goes in to making your favorite breakfast or lunch treat!

Step 1: combine wheat flour, salt, water and yeast leavening to make the dough

Step 2: mix the dough in a mixer for about 10 minutes

Step 3: let dough stand for a while

Step 4: knead dough, then place in a bowl and let it rise until it has doubled in size

Step 5: divide dough into balls, and then shape each ball into a bagel

Step 6: carefully drop a few bagels at a time into a pot of boiling water for about 45 seconds, and flip each bagel once half way through

Step 7: remove any excess water from the bagels and then place on a greased baking sheet

Step 8: top with flavored seasonings if preferred

Step 9: bake bagels for about 30 minutes and then let cool

Step 10: ENJOY!!

Yes, these steps may seem complicated and long. So, leave it to the experts at the Bagel Bakery, who make a living out of ensuring that you become an expert at step 10. Now that we have taken care of your curiosity about how your favorite treat is made, come to the Bagel Bakery and celebrate your newfound knowledge with us!

What Your Favorite Bagel Topping Says About You

Smoked Salmon Bagel

It is commonly known that your sports team preference says a lot about you. Similarly, your favorite bagel topping can reveal so much about who you are.

If your favorite bagel topping is cream cheese, you are the typical rule follower. You always do as you are told, go through life exactly by the book and very rarely take your own path. You tend to play it safe but are completely happy this way. You also just really enjoy the thick and creamy texture of cream cheese smeared on top of your chewy bagel.

Butter and Jelly-topped bagel lovers are a simple people. You don’t mind a little extra excitement, but generally you prefer traditional and classic flavors. You still love reading the morning’s newspaper while sipping on coffee and eating your bagel with butter and jelly, and you are a religious follower of Dr. Oz and Oprah. You’re everyone’s favorite person to be around, because you are so sweet and have a great sense of humor.

If you only enjoy bagels topped with meats and cheese, then you are definitely the adventurous and fearless type. You don’t mind breaking the rules if it means more excitement and fun, and you most certainly are the life of the party. You add color to any situation, and you liven up any room. You are exciting and spontaneous and definitely do not take societal norms into consideration when making decisions. You are your own person, and you are extremely proud of that.

If you prefer lox on top of your bagel, then hold on one second please, while we get out the red carpet for you. You are a very fancy individual. You love experiencing the most luxurious things this world has to offer. Sunday Brunch is your favorite meal and the bagel with lox is always your go-to item on the menu. You are a very classy individual, but at the same time you are down to earth and have great taste buds.

We at the Bagel Bakery love serving you and seeing you in our store, no matter which type of bagel topping you prefer, so stop by today for lunch and say hi to us!

Employee’s Favorite

employee favorite

Our menu offers so many delicious choices to please even the pickiest of eaters, but we understand that it is hard to know just how good something is unless you’ve heard it from someone who’s actually tried it (and makes it!)

What better way to explore all of your possibilities at the Bagel Bakery than by hearing from our employees themselves what their favorite menu items are?

Meet Davis, one of our hard-working employees and the son of Ken Rembert, our boss. Davis’s favorite menu item is the Three Cheese Roast Beef. This decadent Bagel Bakery original includes provolone cheese, bleu cheese, and chive and onion cream cheese, paired with lettuce, onion and tomato, all on top of juicy roast beef.

“It’s so rich and there are so many kinds of cheese. The chive cream cheese goes so well with the roast beef. It is such a flavorful pairing,” said Davis.

For just $7.49 you can get a Three Cheese Roast Beef Signature Sandwich from the Bagel Bakery and see for yourself why this is Davis’s favorite item on our menu.

If Celebrities Were Bagels

Bagels have personalities. They are each different in their own ways and attract certain types of people. Celebrities are similar to bagels in this way. The two are also similar in their importance to our daily lives, so we thought it would be fun to compare them!

Plain Bagel – Have you ever had a rough day and found yourself craving the comfort of a plain bagel? Like Plain Bagels, Dr. Phil McGraw has the capability to make anyone’s problems disappear and to make anyone feel better. Plain bagels and Dr. Phil are loyal, simple and eager to help you through even your worst issues.

Everything Bagel – Selena Gomez is an everything bagel if we’ve ever seen one. She can sing, she can dance, she can act, AND she has a great personality! She is everything to not only American Society, but to her universal fan base. We are always excited by her versatility and her colorful personality. Like the everything bagel, Selena Gomez keeps us happy, keeps us on our toes and keeps us wanting more.

Cinnamon Raisin Bagel – When thinking about which celebrities most closely match a cinnamon raisin bagel, none other than Ellen DeGeneres comes to mind. Underrated, yet sweet and amazing, Ellen and cinnamon raisin bagels don’t get nearly enough credit for all they do.

Spinach Bagel – Only the Popeye of pop-culture deserves to be compared to the spinach bagel. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson spends every second of his time away from acting working on his body. Like the spinach bagel, he is healthy, and full of protein but still a crowd-pleaser.

Happy Employee Appreciation Day

If you own a business, you know how crucial your employees are to its success. So, it is safe to say that employees do a lot. And what better way to show them that they are appreciated than with some bagels in the office on National Employee Appreciation Day, which is on March 2nd of every year.

The History of the Bagel

Millions of people across the world enjoy bagels as a breakfast treat or an after-school snack, but very few know where they originated. It is a common misconception that bagels were invented in New York, and while this was the first North American state to adopt this food trend, the first documented bagel was in Europe. In 17th century Poland, bagels were a frequent part of everyday life. Immigrants from Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe brought bagels to other parts of the world – especially North America – in the 20th century when bagels were introduced.

Immigrants – many of whom came through New York – brought this food to the land of opportunity and watched the bagel market flourish into one of the most successful enterprises in the economy.

Today, bagels are an extremely popular breakfast staple for millions of Americans, as well as in other parts of the world. And along the way, they have created much diversity to the traditional bagel.

The Bagel Bakery, since it opened its doors in 2000, has primarily stuck with the traditional take on the bagel, but has also added fun and exciting creations such as Sun-Dried Tomato and Blueberry-flavored bagels and Honey Walnut and Spinach and Artichoke cream cheese.

Super Bowl Party: Bagel Bakery Edition

This year, ditch the traditional Super Bowl snacks and serve your guests something new and exciting. Bagels from the Bagel Bakery can help you make Super Bowl party food that will leave your friends dying for more. Our favorite thing about bagels is that they are so versatile and can be used to make a variety of delicious treats.  Here are just a few ideas that we know you and your guests will love!

  • Bagel pizzas

These are so easy to make, and are sure to please any crowd! Buy a Bag O Bagels from the Bagel Bakery (we suggest garlic, but any flavor will do!), and cut each of them in half. Then, spread your favorite pizza sauce all over the surface, top with cheese and any other toppings you choose and place them in the oven until the cheese is melted and the bagel is golden! WARNING: These bagel pizzas will go fast, so buy extra bagels and be prepared to make more!

  • Bagel chips with dip

Serving tortilla chips at a Super Bowl party is so cliché. Surprise your guests with an exciting twist on this classic treat. For this recipe, we recommend using a mix of everything, sesame, plain, and onion bagels from the Bagel Bakery, but any combination will work! Once you have your bagels, slice them horizontally to make thinner bagel pieces, place them on a baking sheet, and bake them until golden and crispy. Break apart the chips into smaller, easier to eat pieces Pair your bagel chips with a mixture of our famous cream cheese and your favorite salsa, to make the ultimate party snack.

  • Bagel sandwich wedges

Sandwiches at any party are a fan-favorite. Take it up a notch this year by using your favorite Bagel Bakery bagels instead of the traditional sub bread. Fill the bagel with your favorite lunchmeats, cheeses, and toppings, and cut into four slices to make smaller pieces to feed more guests.

Each of these three recipes is fun, easy- to make, and sure to please all of your guests for this Super Bowl. Come by the Bagel Bakery today for lunch and to get everything you need to make these for the weekend!
